Chew on This

If the title of this post made you wince a little and hold your stomach-you obviously had a great Thanksgiving! Hahaha My family and I did too. Although we didn't follow our normal tradition of me cooking and anyone in town dropping by to eat, it turned out fine. The day began a little unsettled-I don't think any of us knew what to do without me in the kitchen and the smells of food filling the house. We weren't to go to our friends house until around 5 pm, so we sat around and kind of...stared at each other. After we watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, we talked about what we were thankful for and everyone did their own thing. (The kids watched their videos without a time limit and we watched tv) So, our dinner was fabulous and I came home without having to put away leftovers and clean the kitchen. Pretty cool, but I'm sure I'll cook next year. I don't feel as thankful without that duty, I think.

So, here are a few little trivia bits to think of.

On Turkey Day, approximately 45 million turkeys will be consumed.

In 1924, most of the Macy's employees were first generation immigrants from Europe. They wanted to celebrate the American holiday with flair. They decided that Americans were really too boring, sitting around and eating, and they decided to bring in their traditions of big balloons and celebrations in market streets. This is how the parade began.

The parade was cancelled in 1941 and 1942 due to the second World War.

In 1958, the country had found themselves in a Helium Shortage and so the parade went on, however cranes carried the balloons for the city to see.

I will resume with some posts of quality when I return on Monday. This weekend is anyone's guess.  :0)
Have a fabulous weekend everyone!

Thanks and Giving

I happen to think that Thanksgiving is one of the best words in the English language. I love how we are led as a country to sit down for one day and give Thanks for what we are so fortunate to have. I love that for one day, our country gives to those less fortunate, meals and clothing. (Now, I'm not saying that our country is crass and doesn't give on any other day-but on Thanksgiving and Christmas, you really SEE what is given to those less fortunate.)

Since I won't be having family over on the holiday, and we plan on going to a dear friend's house for dinner, I'm not as stressed as I originally was at the beginning of this month. I also might still blog-but I promise no words. Only Snapshots of Thankfulness.

Oh-and thanks to Google Analytics, I discovered that I have one follower in the UK (Hi Terrie!!), one from Australia, one from Japan and one from Sweden!! How exciting! Hello world!!

I have always wanted to visit Japan, and it's funny, my princesses also love the artwork that comes out of Japan. They want to go too.

Sweden, funny story!! TRUE STORY! I dated a Swedish exchange student, many, many years ago. I was..uh.. sixteen I think. Anyway-I don't remember your name, man, I know it wasn't Sven. :0) You were a cool guy and I hated having to watch your plane fly away to Sweden that summer. **Sigh** ahh memories.

To everyone-thank you for your comments this week. I've needed the uplifting and positive spirit you all show so well. I love how we can come together from different backgrounds, different ages and opinions and yet all support each other with love and respect. If only the rest of the world followed our example, eh? I know...Idealism Alert! :0)

Happy Holidays to my American friends-be careful and safe while travelling if you are, hug those relatives tightly when you see them (even if your mother in law informs you that her turkey looked so much better twenty years ago when she cooked for 100 people in the snow.) Love To ALL!!
