Friday Lyrical Fun

No more Youtube videos today, I promise. :0) I know that gets time consuming....

So, I have to say that this week of diving into songs has been a roller coaster for me, personally. I wanted to be short and concise, but with music it's just too difficult. I realized that for every important, funny, volatile and emotional time in my life; music was there with me. A song or group of songs that I had on a CD can bring back that time like an uncontrollable flood. I don't mean this in a bad way. I don't relive the moments....but can appreciate them. Like a cheesy montage in a movie. A life soundtrack, if you will. This also made me realize that it could possibly be crucial for me to have playlists for my WIPs

So, for Friday's Fun, I'm posting some lyrics that have always struck me as beautifully written. Feel free to join in in the comments if you have the time!

"My soul is painted like the wings of butterflies..." ~Brian May, Queen
"Her tears like diamonds on the floor..." ~Rob Thomas
"Life's like an hourglass glued to the table..." ~Ana Naelik 2 am
"Rhiannon rings like a bell through the night..." ~Stevie Nicks
"It's only me that wants to wrap around your dreams; have you any dreams you'd like to sell?" ~Stevie Nicks
"Am I making something worthwhile of this place?" Azure Ray Displaced
"Put your arms around me; what you feel is what you are and what you are is beautiful." ~Goo Goo Dolls Slide
"It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine." ~REM

I could go on and on, but it's too late.

  1. I always love musicians who write great lyrics. Sting does it pretty consistently. One of his more clever ones is in the song "Seven Days":

"He'll murder me in time for his tea
Does it bother me at all
My rival is Neanderthal, it makes me think
    Perhaps I need a drink
    IQ is no problem here
We won't be playing Scrabble for her hand I fear
    I need that beer"

But my favorite pretty lines are from Simon and Garfunkel's "For Emily":
    "What a dream I had
    Dressed in Organdy
    Clothed in crinoline
    Of smoky burgundy
    Softer than the rain

    I wandered empty streets down
    Past the shop displays
    I heard cathedral bells
    Tripping down the alleyways
    As I walked on

And when you ran to me
Your cheeks flushed with the night
    We walked on frosted fields
    Of juniper and lamplight
    I held your hand

  2. What wonderful things to see! Stevie Nicks inspired my entire line of clothing, jewelry, and accessories, in my online store:

From hanky hem skirts, to decorated top hats and tambourines, velvet legwarmers & floppy berets, and of course the crescent moon necklace, and Wild Heart ring! Love this style!

  4. I like the line where you said that Country Music is always good for a three-minute story. And I agree that it sometimes brings tears to your eyes. Good post.
