If You Really Knew Me...

I'd like to organize a blogfest based on this show I  stumbled upon called, If You Really Knew Me on Mtv.  From what I've seen so far, these two folks are travelling around to schools with a day called, Challenge Day and trying to bring teens together across the divides of race, religion, sexual orientation, cliques, etc..  If it is possible for you to find this and watch it OnDemand.... DO IT NOW.

As I have watched this show where real teenagers open up and tell the cameras their fears, secrets and hurt feelings....I've come to one conclusion. MORE ADULTS NEED TO STEP UP AND TEACH THESE KIDS SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Show love. Show tolerance. Show respect. I'm listening to the problems that they bear upon their tiny, inexperienced shoulders and I'm bawling. I wish I could visit every teen in the world and tell them that it's okay. I love you. I can listen to you.

These shows are obviously not good for me to watch on a daily basis. *wipes a tear*

Sooo what about a group cyberhug?? A cyber-challenge day? I would love for anyone, any age to either leave me a comment that finishes the sentence "If you really knew me, you would know that..." or write a blog post beginning with that sentence. Then come back by and link it for me. Or tweet it.We're all in this world together. Remind everyone you know. Let's run it for a week. This week, or next week....could be both. I don't think it will hurt if it went wild. Spread the word. Let's get to know the REALITY of us.

I'll start.....

If you really knew me, you would know that I struggle with self confidence daily and I worry every moment of every day that I'm not the perfect mother, wife or friend. You would know that I love people and crave their approval.

Your turn....

  1. Wow - that sounds like an intense show Kristi.

Teens & kids have so much on their plates and that's in a normal, healthy, happy home. When things aren't great at home it can be so overwhelming.

If you really knew me, you would know that I have nightmares about the kids I've taught over the years and the hell they sometimes go through. I try hard to make school a happy, safe, encouraging place for all my students and I really give myself a hard time when I feel I haven't done it.

  2. I've seen the ads for this and wondered how they get teens to open up in an honest way. I may have to find this and DVR it.

If you really knew me, you would know that I worry that going after my own dreams will cost my kids the attention that might lead them to someday go after their own.

  3. I also struggle with self confidience, I also never really let people know the real me. I am always just trying to be what I think people need.

  4. I want you to know that you have always been the best friend to me along the years. You're always there for support or for a pick me up and I know I can always count on you to listen and not judge. I couldn't thank you enough for that :)

If you really knew me, you would know that I am in constant fear of failure, failure to meet people's expectations, failure to succeed in life....
