Last week I had two different people tell me in person how much they enjoy stopping by my blog. When I ask why, the only answers I had were that it was my writing. My way of writing. I suppose us writers would call that voice, right? I also found myself completely shocked each time. Even though one of those people was my mother. *Hi mom!*
Don't get me wrong, no one has ever told me that my writing is horrible. I made good grades in school with any writing assignment and I even had a wonderful seventh grade teacher, Mrs. Powers, who really pushed me to write as a living.
But it's still surprising each time someone tells me that they enjoy my writing. Especially when it's not a manuscript, but a blog of random thoughts, wistful dreams and my own stumbling journey into the publishing aspect of writing. Not only is it surprising, though. It is incredibly uplifting to hear that your writing is touching a person. If it's to create a smile, a question or even a tear; I'm honored to have written it.
So, to all of my writer friends that are slogging through this writing journey-do not despair. Even your simplest words can touch the person who is reading.
Do you find yourself surprised when you hear about how your writing is enjoyed by another?
You have such writing talent and good teaching skills. There's so much you can do with that one-two punch.
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question: yes. I even find myself surprised when people talk to me. ;)
I've never heard that. So, I just hope that someday I will.
ReplyDeleteYour voice is young and creative, bubbly with incentive. Why wouldn't anyone love it?
ReplyDeleteAs for me, I'm always surprised when people say they like my writing. Of course I only think they say it to be polite.
That's awesome, Kristi! Real compliments mean so much :)
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome that people tell you that and it's also very deserved. You do have a way with words and the craft of writing. :)
ReplyDeleteI am always amazed that anyone says such things to me. It always comes as a surprise and really touches me.
I like your writing voice too.
ReplyDeleteYes, you have a great voice. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteYes, it surprises me, and it means a lot.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your blog, it's one I never miss.
I've given up on reading the newspaper or magazines. Instead I sit down with my smartphone and a cup of coffee and check in with my blogger friends...and Kristi - you are among my top reads. I always look forward to you whimsy!
ReplyDeleteOh you guys!! Thank you so much for such high compliments. I promise I wasn't digging for them. I just want you all to know how wonderful your writing is, too!
ReplyDeleteThat's so great! It's always nice to hear "thank you" and "I love your blog." Those are my favorite words, so I try to say them to someone every day. So I love your blog!
ReplyDelete:)
Constantly! I don't think I'll ever get used to it, and it's still hard for me to believe. I think what makes you so likeable is that you're very real and honest. In real life, you'd be the approachable one. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's what it's about, isn't it? Touching people. Sharing emotions. To hear that what you wrote gave someone a smile? Yeah, that's the best feeling in the world. A writer's form of service. Your blog is wonderful so I'm glad people are telling you so!
ReplyDeleteI love it when people comment about my writing or my blog or my attitude, but yes, it always surprises me. I'm thrilled you are receiving recognition for yours, because I love it too. :-)
ReplyDeleteElana: Thank you so much! I love yours as well, and always so helpful!
ReplyDeleteOh Melissa, thanks! I try to be that type of person.
Nisa: Yes, it truly is about touching others' lives and I'm so glad we are a part of that!
Thank you Shannon! You're wonderful :)
Definitely agree! I always enjoy your blog posts!
