Are You Kidding Me?

So, I had this clever little post all planned out for today. I was going to make you laugh, and cry. I had powerful points of observation, I .... Okay, it wasn't that good. But, I'm going to have to postpone (heh heh) that for another day.

Today, I'm mad. Madder than a hornet. Mad and totally and completely in shock.

When people ask me where I'm from, I tell them Northern California. (I mean NORTHERN like, above Sacramento) I currently reside in Tennessee and after the football performance on Sunday, I doubt I'll have any pride in stating that I live in Tennessee. Not just because the Titans have had a bad year. I'm a die hard Bronco's fan too and they haven't been to the Super Bowl (or any bowl) in a long while. I'm not ashamed of them.

On Sunday, the Tennessee Titans went to Buffalo and beat the Bills. After the Titans' recent losing streak, it's obvious they would celebrate their victory. What I found appalling was not behavior of players dancing, high fiving and jumping in the air, nor the coach with a big smile on his face. The person that behaved like a total ass? The owner! OWNER. Did you read that correctly?

Yes, the man with the millions, the one who doesn't have to run down the field and get knocked over by three burly men, showed his ass by flipping the bird to the Buffalo Bills, the players, the coaches, the FANS. And he didn't just throw one middle finger out in the air. Oh no, TWO...he double F*U'd the whole stadium. And then....oh yes, THEN, he proceeded to shake them in the air, over the balcony of his posh seats, for a couple of minutes, at least.

I'm not exactly offended because of his middle fingers. I'm no goody two shoes and have been known to fly off the handle with a finger or even some choice words. I'm not going to lie to you. However, I tend to not do this to millions of fans....or at meetings....or at work....

The NFL fined him a hefty fee, 1/4 of a million dollars. Good. Now, what else?? I mean, honestly, would we still have representation if we flipped double birds at our agents? Hell no! Would people want to buy our books if they heard we flipped off other authors that made it to the bestseller list? I don't think the owner should still be an owner if you want to know the truth. I don't know how all of the behind the scenes business stuff works for NFL, but I do know that flipping off a stadium full of people is not good business practice.

What kind of role model is that for our athletically inclined children? People want to know what happened to our generation of kids....well....LOOK AT THE EXAMPLES THEY HAVE!

I for one, will never be a fan of the Titans nor will I buy any of their product logos. I lost all respect for the entire team because of the actions of one man. Is that fair? No. Is it how the world works? Yup. Should an 86 year old man that owns a football team think of such repercussions? Absolutely!

  1. Wow! I hadn't heard this. That's crazy.

  2. Totally agree. After 86 years on the planet, you don't know that that was completely inappropriate?!? Yikes.

  3. Age does not give someone manners or class.

What's odd is that he behaved this way after a win (I won't even go into the whole public thing). Gotta wonder what he does when his team loses.

  4. Sigh. And this is why I can't watch professional sports.

I used to be a HUGE fan of a certain football team, but when a new owner (who I couldn't muster any respect for) bought them and fired the coach, I realized I was a fan of the coach, because I just couldn't bring myself to cheer for them anymore.

This kind of behavior is inexcusable.

  5. That's messed up. I hate it when athletes, actors, politicians or anyone in positions of power and influence let fans down. Not cool.

  6. I just don't know what gets into people sometimes. Doesn't anyone realize that treating others with respect and kindness will get you a lot farther than being rude and crude? It just kills me. Even if people aren't genuinely nice, you'd think they'd at least pretend to be nice for self serving reasons!

  7. I was born and raised in Buffalo...live just outside of it now. And while I am not a football fan and did not see the game, I sure as hell heard about what happened!!! It is sad the way athletes, actors, musicians, anyone in the public eye who has the ability to become a role model for kids, sometimes do not act with respect for others.

  8. I should correct...I was misinformed, or mis read or something....but apparently the game was in Nashville, not Buffalo. Still disgraceful. !
