Positive Reinforcement-REWARDS

I love rewards. I don't know about you, but as a child, I was the one that wanted the most stickers on her chart. I looked forward to whatever reward may await me. Even if it was something as simple as a sticker. I'm a firm believer in the positive reinforcement aspect of child rearing, too.

I thought of this yesterday as I watched Monday night football. I wrote a little over 2K yesterday and I rewarded myself with internet time and the football game. (Go Undefeated Saints!) The court jester thought it was hilarious that I set up rewards for my writing. Well, it's not. It's an instant gratification thing, and if I can satisfy that, then I can keep going.

I know I'm not the only person that does this. Right? RIGHT??!! Tell me fellow bloggers, how do you reward yourself for a productive word count?? Do you reward yourself and if not, why??

Now-briefly, I have posted my Heartfelt award from Melane Thank you again, Melane!! Now, I have to pay it forward. Check out these heartfelt blogs. :)

  1. Aw, thanks for the blog shout out!

And yes, I definately reward myself!

I can't read for pleasure or watch any of my DVR'd TV shows unless I have met my word goal for the day.

And every 10K words I get to buy myself a Starbucks coffee drink as a treat. (Otherwise I brew my coffee at home. This was also put in place to save money, because Starbucks is expensive!)

  2. Congratulations Kristi and to all the other recipients! The reinforement does wonders for momentum.

I made my word count for both days so far, and I estatic, so this morning I treated myself to a carmel latte from Starbucks. Yummy!

    Happy writing!

  3. Congratulations! I reward myself in all kinds of different ways. I like to veg in front of the tv without thinking when I've had a productive writing day.

  4. Congrats on the award!

Not too often to write for a reward, but if I do need a little boost, then sadly, it's that I get to go have a shower earlier if I get my word count in. Gross, I know, but it sometimes works!

  5. Congrats on the 2000 words.

I haven't done rewards for myself, but it's something I need to do. I really want to finish my WIP this month.

  6. I don't have any hard and fast rewards. I just do what I want once I meet the word count. I'm ahead and will probably take today off as I have, gulp, signed up for an editor pitch today with one of my RWA writing chapters. So, wish me good luck and send me good vibes around 11 am pst. So, this morning I will be honing and rewriting and stressing about my pitch. This afternoon's activities will entirely depend on whether the editor rejects my idea, requests a partial, or requests a full. Gulp.

  8. Kristi,
Absolutely, I reward myself! Write a word, one sticker. Second word, another sticker. haha. Nah! Not quite that bad, but I am waaaaay into stickers and rewards, so when I reach my word count, there's something waiting for me. I always act surprised. :-)

I wanted to tell you about a $75 prize being given away. Be sure to head over and read all about it. Hurry 'cause we only have until the 6th of November to enter. Hurry, hurry! ~ Yaya

  9. Congrats on the award Kristi. And congrats to one and all. Grrrrrr! The Saints?? Excuse me Kristi, but I'm a Dolphin!!!

I've composed myself enough to say I reward myself with the only reward there is. CHOCOLATE! And I have diabetes. So I take extra insulin and INDULGE. Now you know why I have to do the fitness challenge. :)

  10. Kristi...Well, I gotta a full request from the editor. Yay!!! But now I'm freaking out. This is actually for my space opera not my YA fantasy, and it's not totally done. Well, the first draft is, but I'm still revising. So now I gotta buckle done and get this puppy revised and polished so I can send it off to her while she still remembers me. ha ha

  11. THANK YOU for this award!!!! I am so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as rewards for writing...I totally agree!!! When I am in active writing mode (right now I am not...edit mode), I keep track of all my progress...and just seeing how many words I have accumulate over the week, month...etc...gives me so much joy!!! I like to reward myself with a few days break to scrapbook or just play on the internet!
